The 2016 / 17 Liga 3 season came to a close yesterday evening. With a 4:1 victory over Sokół Aleksandrów Łódzki, the team of Widzew Łódź finished the season on a positive note before heading into the summer break.
10,123 fans flocked to the Widzew stadium yesterday afternoon (14.06.17) to see their team take on Sokół Aleksandrów Łódzki in the last match of the 2016 / 17 season. Although dreams of promotion to Liga 2 faded three matchdays before the finish of the season, the club, team and fans can look back at a successful season having finished in third place of the Liga 3 group 1 table.
The team of Widzew Łódź will now be heading into the summer break, however, in the background, club officials are already working hard in preparation for the new season in the hopes that at the end of the 2017 / 18 season, RTS Widzew Łódź will be top of the league table and moving up to Liga 2.
City rivals and promotion hopefuls ŁKS Łódź finished in second place, trailing league champions Finishparkiet Drwęca Nowe Miasto Lubawskie. Therefore, the new season will also see the return of the Łódź derby as both, Widzew and ŁKS, will once again go head to head in their battle for promotion.
