Polish police launches investigation into Lewandowski’s public drinking

Polish police have launched an investigation following a complaint that football star Robert Lewandowski has broken the law by drinking in public. Lewandowski took a sip from a bottle of champagne as part of his team’s celebrations of their win against Ireland and qualification to the Euro 2016 football tournament in France.


An official complaint was received and therefore police has no choice but to investigate the matter. On 11th of October, the Polish national football team qualified for the Euro 2016 tournament with a 2:1 win over the Republic of Ireland. Lewandowski and his team mates celebrated with a bottle of champagne on the pitch. It is illegal to drink in public places in Poland.

– The investigation will clarify the circumstances of the incident and will determine whether it will be classed as an offence. We will then proceed with questioning witnesses. – police in Warsaw confirmed.
