PKP Intercity to invest in modernized rolling stock

PKP Intercity is to invest 592 million zlotych on the modernization of its rolling stock (320 mln was received from European funds). As CEO of PKP Intercity Jacek Leonkiewicz said, it is the largest modernization in the history of the company. The modernization carried out by three Polish companies: Pesa Bydgoszcz, Newag and FPS Cegielski Poznan.


More than 160 modernized train cars already operate on the route betwen Przemysl and Szczecin. Air-conditioned compartments are equipped with 6 seats with individual lighting, windows with blinds and toilets are equipped with baby changing facilities. New cars are also adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and provide space for bicycles and ski equipment.

In addition to the upgraded cars later this year, 10 modern diesel locomotives will be introduced on the routes Rzeszow- Stalowa Wola-Zamosc, and Rzeszow-Jaslo-Zagorz. They will be able to reach top speeds of 140 km / h. The value of this investment is over 131 million zł, of which over 67 million zł comes from the EU.
