In Łódź News

Preparations for the revitalization of one of the pearls of Łódź architecture are underway as the the Steinert Palace at ul. Piotrkowska 272 will undergo a complete facelift bringing life back into the estate which consists of 5 different types of historical objects.

– The palace itself will have new usable and commercial functions and it will be the first of two projects undergoing revitalization. The cost of the investment is estimated at PLN 38 million, but 70% of it will be funded through EU funds. We want to start work still this year – announced the head of the revitalization committee at UML Tomasz Piotrowski.

The historic building will be modernized under the watchful eye of the monument conservator, and the entire Steinert estate will show the history of Industrial Lodz in a nutshell. It was originally constructed for a family of industrialists, who came to Łódź in the 1820s. The Steinert brothers, Karol and Emil, gathered sufficient fortune in the first decade of the 20th century to be able to build a grand mansion at the main street of the city. The first palace was built in 1909, and a Neo-Mannerist mansion was annexed to it in 1911. Both buildings were designed by Alfred Balcke.

– This example shows how Łódź developed in the 19th century and how fortunes were built through factories throughout the city. In addition, inside the palace premises we will also reproduce a winter garden, and on the facades and inside the building we will preserve a lot of interesting architectural details and equipment, including the parquet, balustrades, terracotta, joinery, stained glass and stairs – emphasized Kamila Kwiecińska-Trzewikowska, responsible for conservation of monuments in the city.
