Police officers in Łódź have raided and liquidated a laboratory used for the production of counterfeit perfumes and cosmetic products. Experts on the scene estimated a loss of approx. 13 million PLN for the brands.
Joanna Kącka, spokesperson for police in Łódź, confirmed that the raid took place on the 22nd of December and specifically targeted 4 pre-selected sites.
At one of the sites, police officers discovered a complete production line, semi-finished products and packaging. In addition, officers confiscated over two thousand ready-made perfume bottles, prepared for distribution.
On the same day, police officers arrested a 44-year-old man suspected of masterminding the production and sale of counterfeit goods. At his premises, officers found thousands of bottles of perfume, lipstick, blush and semi-finished products and packing cartons of known brands. Representatives of the brands initially estimated that the value of their losses amounted to no less than 13 million PLN.
Evidence collected by the department of combating economic crime in Łódź indicates that the counterfeit cosmetics were offered to customers for at least one year and were mainly sold through auction sites.
The arrested 44-year-old has been charged with forgery and use of proprietary trademarks. If convicted he could face up to 5 years imprisonment.
