MPK Łódz is finalizing its trial of new Mercedes minibuses. The company plans to buy additional minibuses, which in the future would carry passengers on the less popular lines. The Mercedes minibus was tested on line 84.
During the week-long test run the drivers, technical personnel and passengers tested the performance of the vehicles as well as whether or not passenger found it to be comfortable. Additional tests were run on potential technical issues and fuel consumption.
Feedback suggests that travelers are satisfied with the air conditioning and comfortable seats. Drivers compliment it on its maneuverability and comfort of driving. The feedback will be used to determine whether the city & MPK will replace the currently used 16 Jelcz minbuses which were purchased in 2006 and are already heavily exploited.
Mercedes minibus offers more comfort with low-floor, air conditioning, automatic transmission and two ramps for wheelchairs. One vehicle with a length of 8.7 meter can accommodate up to 35 passengers, depending on the number of people with disabilities in wheelchairs. Due to its slimline construction the Mercedes minibus also excels in narrow inner-city streets.
