On the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of Jan Karski’s birth, city officials laid flowers at the Jan Karski bench in Łódź. At the Mark Edelman center for dialogue, a special reading dedicated to the jubilee took place in front of students from several schools across Łódź. Following the event, the children moved to the “Jan Karski Bench” where they laid flowers.
Jan Karski is a honorary citizen of Łódź. He was born in Łódź on the 24th of April 1914. Karski was a Polish World War II resistance movement fighter. In 1942 and 1943, he reported to the Polish government in exile on the situation in Nazi-German-occupied Poland, particularly on the destruction of the Warsaw Ghetto, and the Nazi-German extermination camps.
