Two 19-year-olds were charged with promoting fascism in a public place following a nationalist rally held in Łódz in September this year. If convicted they could face up to 2 years in prison.
The allegations concern a public gathering on the 26th of September in Łódz. – The findings that we have made is that the congregation began a few minutes after 16 and was attended by several hundred people who moved from Plac. Wolnosci to Piotrkowska Street. The behavior of some of them created the suspicion of having committed crimes falling within the general concept of “hate speech” – says Krzysztof Kopania, spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office in Łódz.
– We have gathered evidence on two young men who were seen performing gestures widely recognized as a fascist greeting. The prosecutor’s investigation resulted from a photo being used as a magazine cover. The photo clearly shows the two men raising their arm with a characteristic gesture of “Heil Hitler”. The two 19 – year olds were charged for the public promotion of fascism.
– At the moment we are trying to precisely recreate the course of the march and establish the identity of other people whose behavior could deplete a crime – adds Krzysztof Kopania. If found guilty, the suspects could face up to 2 years imprisonment.
