A courageous tram driver most likely prevented a serious accident by stopping a drunk driver from continuing his journey on Monday afternoon. As the Dziennik reported, the incident took place in the center of Łódź. The driver of a Renault is said to have had almost three per mille of alcohol in the blood.
The Dziennik reported that the incident took place on Monday (10.10.) afternoon at approx. 14:00. The driver of a Renault, maneuvering his car along Piotrkowska towards to Pilsudskiego, cut twice in front of a tram moving into the same direction. When the car and tram came to a stop at a red traffic light, the tram driver approached the car, immediately recognizing the smell of alcohol.
Following his instincts, the tram driver pulled the keys from the car’s ignition and informed the police. The driver of the Renault was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and had his car confiscated. An alcohol test revealed that he had almost three per mille of alcohol in his blood.
He was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol. If convicted he could face up to two years imprisonment.
