Olimpia Grudziądz – Widzew Łódź 1:1 – Farewell 1st League

In their last match in the 1st league (second Polish division), Widzew Łódź drew with Olimpia Grudziądz 1:1 away from home. The goal for Widzew Łódź was scored by Montenegrin midfielder Veljko Batrović.

The future of Widzew is not clear yet. Technically, as 17th of Liga ahead of Flota Świnoujście (forfeited their games and were disqualified), Widzew was relegated to Liga 2 (third Polish division). However, due to the financial situation at the club, the licensing commission has already expressed their concerns over granting a license to Widzew to play in Liga 2. If Widzew will not be granted a license they will drop to Liga 3 where they will join local rivals LKS Łódź. LKS too was previously relegated due to financial difficulties.

With GKS Belchatow having been relegated from the Ekstraklasa to Liga 1, the outlook for football in the Łódź region next season is bleak.
