First snow in Tatra Mountains

Thermometers in Katowice showed almost 30 degrees just one week ago, while today the peaks of the Tatra Mountains were covered by the first snow.

The snow is not visible from Zakopane but the peak of Kasprowy Wierch is covered in traces of snow and temperatures reported by Meteorological Station fell as low as -1. Meteorologists say that snow above 1900 meters is not unusual at this time of the year. Last year the first snowfall was recorded at the end of August. Experts do not reckon with an imminent onset of winter as an “Indian Summer” is predicted for October.

The early snowfall has caused the trails to be wet and slippery and tourists are advised to be careful.
