PKP Intercity to introduce quiet zones on board trains

PKP Intercity is currently working on a pilot for the introduction of quiet zones on Intercity trains – said Beata Czemerajda spokeswoman for PKP Intercity. The pilot will be carried out on Pendolino trains.

Quiet zones have proven popular on trains of other European carriers such as Deutsche Bahn. Quiet zones are designated areas in which passengers are prohibited from, among others, listening to loud music or make phone calls.

– First, we plan to test the new solution in the InterCity Express Premium trains (Pendolino). The pilot would involve a marginal portion of the train (2nd class). A passenger buying a ticket can choose if they want to use this service or choose the standard in the rest of the train’s composition – said Czemerajda.

Czemerajda also stated that the final decision on whether to introduce quiet zones as a permanent solution, in which trains and in what form, will be made after the end of the pilot. The carrier did not indicate as to when the pilot would begin.
