The highly anticipated Łódź derby, in the Polish womens volleyball league, left fans of ŁKS Commercecon Łódź happy as their team defeated local rivals Grot Budowlani Łódź at the Atlas Arena by 3:0 yesterday evening.
Around 5,000 volleyball fans gathered at the Atlas Arena in Łódź yesterday evening as local rivals ŁKS Commercecon Łódź and Grot Budowlani Łódź faced off in the first Łódź Derby of the 2017 / 18 womens volleyball season.
At least according to the statistics of the season so far, the hosts went into the match as the favourites, having won all eight matches played so far this season, with one of their most stunning victories celebrated over Developres SkyRes Rzeszów last weekend. On the other side, Grot Budowlani Łódź, although winners of the 2017 Polish Supercup against champions Chemik Police, were already struggling earlier in the season when they were defeated by 3:0 at home against Trefl Proxima Krakow and 3:0 away from home against Developres SkyRes Rzeszów.
The favourites did not disappoint their fans. With a strong performance on the parquet, ŁKS Commercecon Łódź defeated Grot Budowlani Łódź by 3:0, securing their ninth victory out of nine matches played this season. With their win over Budowlani Łódź, ŁKS takes up first place of the league table with 24 points ahead Chemik Police in second place with 23 points.
This weekend, ŁKS Commercecon Łódź will play host to Impel Wroclaw at the Atlas Arena on Sunday while Budowlani will travel south to meet with MKS Dąbrowa Górnicza.
