Handball World Cup: Poland – Germany 26:29

In an intensely dramatic match, Germany defeated Poland and took revenge for the two defeats in the play-off matches on their road to Doha. After a high-scoring start the match settled down before Germany took the initiative to increase their lead to 15:11.

In the second half Poland managed to reduce the German four-goal lead to one, and a bit later even to equalise at 20 and again at 25 to repel another German three-goal lead. But this was as far as the Polish team would go, and at the end Germany were three goals up again.

In terms of goal production, the right backs were dominant on both sides. Germany’s Steffen Weinhold scored nine for his side while Krysztof Lijewski scored seven for Poland.
