Football action returns to Łódź this weekend (05.08. – 07.08.) as both, ŁKS Łódź and Widzew Łódź, enter into the 2016 / 2017 season. While the Ekstraklasa is already in full swing with 3 matchdays already played, Liga 3 (fourth Polish league) will kick off this weekend.
Liga 3 will enter in a new (restored) mode compared to last season as teams will only compete in four different groups as opposed to eight in the previous season. In group 1, teams from the Łódź, Masovian, Podlaskie and Warmian-Masurian voivodeships will battle it in the hope to get a shot at the much desired promotion to Liga 2.
The first of the two Łódź teams to enter into action will be ŁKS Łódź as they travel to Huragan Wołomin on Saturday 6th of August while Widzew Łódź will play host to Świt Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki at the SMS stadium on Sunday 7th of August.
