Euro 2016: Poland defeated by Portugal after penalty shootout

In their first ever European Championships quarter final, the Polish national football team lost to Portugal by 6:4 after penalty shootout.

Poland went 1:0 up early with a goal by Robert Lewandowski in the 2nd minute of the match. In the 33rd minute, Renato Sanches equalized for Portugal. Both teams had several more chances throughout the match, however, were unable to put the ball in the net, bringing the match into extra time followed by penalty shootout.

Poland kept the same line-up for the penalties as against Switzerland, however, Jakub Blaszczykowski missed from the spot while Portugal scored all their 5 penalties.

Despite losing to Portugal tonight, Polish fans can be proud of their team, already looking forward to the World Cup 2018 qualifyng campaign.
