The Polish national football team booked their ticket to the quarter-finals of the Euro 2016 football tournament in France this afternoon. The “white-reds” defeated Switzerland by 6:5 after penalty shootout.

Poland went 1:0 up in the 39th minute with a goal by Jakub Błaszczykowski, however, the white-reds were unable to keep up their strong performance throughout the entire match as Switzerland added pressure in the second half. The Swiss efforts were rewarded in the 82nd minute when Xherdan Shaqiri scored the 1:1 equalizer with the most beautiful goal of the tournament so far.
A brilliant Łukasz Fabiański saved Poland from conceeding a goal in extra time taking the match into penalty shootout which Poland won by 5:4.
This is the first time that Poland has qualified for the quarter-finals of the European football tournament.
