The new 500 PLN banknote was put into circulation yesterday, the Polish central bank confirmed. The new note, which shows the image of King John III Sobieski, is said to have some of the most advanced security features in the world.

– The new 500 złoty banknote is the fulfilment of the mission of the Polish central bank stipulated in the Act on NBP to organise the management of Polish banknotes and coins. The share of 500 złoty banknotes in cash circulation will be small in the first years and will ultimately depend on banks’ requests to NBP,- the bank stated on its website.
