19 people killed in traffic accidents over Easter in Poland

19 people have lost their lives in connection with road accidents over the Easter period, the Polish police informed on their website. In total, 187 accidents were recorded claiming the lives of 19 and injuring 261. Officers detained 765 drunk drivers.

In the same period last year, 173 accidents occurred, 29 people were killed on the roads and 252 injured. Policemen detained 876 intoxicated drivers.



Although police welcome the downwards trend, officers are still dealing with a large number of intoxicated drivers. However, this year’s number of accidents over the Easter weekend is not only down to the drivers themselves – the weather in many regions of Poland was difficult to predict- police say.

However, the main cause of the accidents were excessive speed, failure to give of right of way, incorrect overtaking and driving while being under the influence of alcohol.
