MPK Lodz will purchase 22 new trams of type Pesa Swing. The contract will be signed this month. Trams will be delivered from August to October 2015.
Negotiations on the amount of funding are still ongoing. Currently it stands at 40 percent. But we have a chance to co-finance up to 80 percent says Zbigniew Papierski, president of MPK Lodz. The cost of a Pęsa stands at 6 million zł. – They are the cheapest trams across the country according to Papierski. Only Polish companies were able to produce trams within 12 months. The new trams will run along the route of Line 10, which after the expansion of W-Z will run to Olechów.
PESA Swing trams are manufactured by Polish company PESA Bydgoszcz. PESA’s low floor trams are currently in operation in the Polish cities of Warsaw, Gdansk and Szczecin but also in use abroad, for example in Kaliningrad (Russia), Szeged (Hungary), Cluj-Napoca (Romania and Sofia (Bulgaria).
