Łódź Metro to be ready before EXPO 2022

In Łódź News

The tender for the construction of a tunnel underneath the city Łódź was commissioned last year. The Minister of Infrastructure informed on Thursday that the analysis of the received bids is under way and that a deal will most likely be signed in September.

– The analysis of the offers is very advanced – said Minister Andrzej Adamczyk. Most likely, in September, we will sign a contract with the contractor. Following the signing of the contract, we will be able to move ahead with the construction – he explained.

The tunnel is to connect Łódź Fabryczna and Kaliska railway stations and will create a metro like transportation system, adding additional stops between the two railway stations.

The 30-meters deep tunnel under the city will not only improve long-distance but also urban travel. It will create a metro like system with which residents will be able to move throughout the city quicker. Passengers will be able to travel from Łódź Widzew to Łódź Kaliska in just a few minutes without the need to change trains or having to be stuck in traffic.

On the way, the trains stop at the newly built Łódź Fabryczna underground station as well as at two new railway stations at the intersection of Zielona / Zachodni and Kościuszki streets (Centrum stop) and at Manufaktura shopping center.

The “Łódź Metro” is expected to be ready before the EXPO 2022, for which the city of Łódź has placed a bid to become host city. The investment is estimated at two billion PLN.
