Councilors of the Civic Platform party (PO) have called for the establishment of a spokesperson for pedestrians in Łódź. The spokesperson’s planned responsibilities are, amongst others, tackling of illegal parking on sidewalks.
Urszula Nizołek-Janiak and Bartosz Domaszewicz, Łódź councilors from PO, want to increase the sense of safety for pedestrians. A resolution with guidelines for pedestrian traffic and safety has been drafted. The project has been accepted by the committee of revitalization of Łódź and the committee of transport.
The resolution is designed to encourage the development of “standards for pedestrian infrastructure.” A few years ago something similar was developed for bicycle lanes. – It’s about developing guidelines for paving, greenery, as well as to define standards for the location of signs, signals and adapt them to the requirements of pedestrians – explained Niziołek-Janiak. The councilors ask for the appointment of an ombudsman for pedestrians, who will look after the implementation of the resolution as well as act as a contact person for the public.
